All flights to and from the island's largest airport, Fontanarossa, are cancelled until lunchtime on Sunday, the airport management announced. The reason is volcanic ash in the air.
Etna erupted in early August and has since intermittently affected flights with ash clouds. Hundreds of flights were cancelled or diverted during August.
Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for information.
