The situation is serious, the Swedish Transport Administration says in a press release.
"On Saturday morning, it will be really difficult in the Stockholm region and parts of northern and eastern Svealand where an orange warning has been issued. The Swedish Transport Administration's recommendation is to stay home or postpone non-essential travel," says the Swedish Transport Administration.
“Danger to human safety”
"Taking to the roads under these conditions can pose a danger to people's safety," says Denny Josefsson.
The overnight traffic jam on the E22 was completely cleared by 8 a.m. on Saturday. But shortly afterwards, a tree fell across the northbound single-lane stretch of the E22, just north of Oskarshamn.
So there is a stop northbound there for about half an hour, says Josefsson.
Mountain travelers by car heading home towards Mälardalen and Stockholm should plan their journey home carefully and postpone it if possible, according to Josefsson.
If you have the opportunity, you should postpone your trip. If you still have to go out and drive, you should be aware that it may take much longer than normal. You should equip your car with food and supplies and be prepared for the possibility of being stopped somewhere, he says.
If you are stopped and queues form, you should move as far to the right of the road as possible so that plow trucks and emergency vehicles can pass, he adds.
Passenger traffic cancelled until Monday
Train travel on the Stångedalsbanan line - between Kalmar and Linköping - is basically stopped until Sunday at 4 p.m. It is hoped that the route will then be able to operate again, according to Denny Josefsson.
Around Gävle, the situation is tougher.
On the Gävle-Ljusdal and Gävle-Sundsvall routes, it has been decided to suspend passenger traffic until Monday at 10 a.m., says Denny Josefsson.
In the Stockholm area, he warns that problems may also arise.
You can expect that it could be difficult and there could be chaos on the railway if the switches are covered in snow again. Then there could be cancellations. So you should stay updated if you are going to go out and take the train.
There may be delays and some trains may be cancelled to thin out traffic and get more trains running on time.
