The former presidential candidate and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy was chosen by Trump to lead the "efficiency council" Doge, which is to propose radical savings within the government apparatus, along with X- and Tesla-owner Musk.
Now he is resigning from the assignment to instead run for governor in Ohio, according to an anonymous person close to him, reports among others Politico.
The resignation has been confirmed by the White House.
"Vivek Ramaswamy played a crucial role in helping us create Doge", says Anna Kelly, spokesperson for the council, in a statement.
"He intends to run for an elected office soon, which requires him to remain outside Doge, based on the structure we announced today", she continues.
According to Politico, the resignation paves the way for Trump advisor Musk to run his own race.
