Violent responses to student protests in Iran

Down with (Ayatollah) Khamenei, protesters chanted in several places in Iran on Sunday, according to videos on social media.

Forces belonging to the notorious Basij militia - the military wing of the Revolutionary Guard - have, according to student organizations, stormed universities and beaten protesting students.

Activists claim that dozens of students have been arrested in violent crackdowns.

This week, memorial services were held in Iran to mark 40 days since thousands of people were killed in anti-regime protests in the country. The memorial services have been marked in several places by renewed expressions of dissatisfaction with the regime in Tehran.
