For the second evening in a row, police clashed with immigration-critical demonstrators outside an asylum accommodation southwest of Dublin.

At least 23 people were arrested after police were hit with bricks, glass bottles and fireworks. Two police officers have been taken to hospital.

Minister of Justice, Interior and Migration Jim O'Callaghan condemned the violence and promised several arrests.

Wednesday's unrest follows the same pattern as Tuesday's, where demonstrators, mainly young men, shouted immigration-critical slogans and waved Irish flags.

The protests erupted after a man, reported to be an asylum seeker, was suspected of committing sexual abuse against a ten-year-old girl near the accommodation in the Dublin suburb of Saggart.
