The pro-Palestinian demonstrators continued their protests, but now without disturbing the cyclists. According to AFP, two protesters were arrested after they crossed the security barriers.
Previously, the finish had to be brought forward on two stages since protesters had entered the area of the planned finish.
It is the Israeli team Israel-Premier-Tech that is the subject of the protests and booing was directed at their cyclists during the time trial stage.
The stage had been shortened for security reasons, from 15 to 12.2 kilometers, and was won by the Italian Filippo Ganna. In the overall standings, Jonas Vingegaard, who finished ninth on Thursday, retains the lead and is 40 seconds ahead of João Almeida, who however gained ten seconds. The Portuguese finished third.
Two real stages remain and most people expect the decision to be made on Saturday's mountain stage. Sunday's final stage, with the finish in Madrid, is seen as a target for the protesters and "extraordinary security measures" will be taken, the Spanish authorities have announced.
