It was on Friday that Kompany collapsed while attending a training session with Bayern Munich's reserve team and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
According to the Bundesliga giant's sporting director Michael Eberl, Kompany has contracted a virus.
Six days after the collapse, the 40-year-old Belgian has now been allowed to return home.
"There he will continue his rehabilitation. That means rest and medication. I am very, very confident that he will soon be back on the sidelines, fully recovered," says Eberl.
