Authorities sent a message to the public urging people to "locate the nearest shelter and await updates." Shortly thereafter, a new message was sent stating that the danger was over and that the public could "resume their normal activities."
Fighter jets were scrambled after the alert.
"We are receiving reports from residents who have seen a possible object," Vilmantas Vitkauskas, head of the crisis management centre, told the channel.
