10–3 against Västerås SK in the fifth and decisive semifinal secured a visit to Västerås – of all places – on Saturday.
Four goals and two assists from Broberg's club contributed significantly to a possible gold celebration in and around Lidköping over the weekend.
The snack before the drama was otherwise the sudden suspension of the star duo Pherson and Säfström. They were reported by the referee and VSK after the 7–2 win in the fourth semifinal on Saturday.
"We do not agree"
A day later, the verdict came. Suspension for two matches and both have played out for the season.
"We do not agree with this assessment. We make a completely different assessment than the disciplinary committee and if this type of situation is to result in suspensions, the referee corps and disciplinary committee will have a lot to do ahead in time" says Villa's club manager Jakob Kaufmann to the club's website.
For Villa, it started badly. Just over a minute into the decisive match in front of over 5,000 spectators, Martin Landström scored the leading goal for Västerås.
Sportklubben increased through Pontus Vilén and Villa was in trouble.
Then Joel Broberg struck twice within four minutes. 2–2 and the decisive semifinal was not even 20 minutes old.
Broberg was far from done. Elegant play saw him set up junior Alfred Malm and the match was turned – at least for a minute. Västerås' reply came immediately through Emil Juhlén.
Edsbyn awaits
The seventh and final goal of the first half fixed by veteran Christoffer Edlund – and with 45 minutes left to play, Villa was in the final.
Two more goals from Broberg and Västerås was a beaten team. Villa won in the end with 10–3.
In the SM final, Edsbyn awaits, who won the semifinal series against Hammarby with 3–0 in matches.
The SM finals on both the women's and men's sides are now played on Saturday in Västerås. In the women's final, Villa meets Västerås.
