Viivi Vainikka Denies Frölunda Partnership Allegations

The Finnish ice hockey star Viivi Vainikka left Luleå and was said to be clear for the SM gold winner Frölunda. A transfer that however should have bursted after she demanded to get her partner to the club. It's totally false, says Vainikka to Expressen.

Viivi Vainikka finished third in the SDHL's scoring league last season, and after the season, it was clear that she was leaving Luleå.

For a few days ago, Göteborgs-Posten revealed that it could have been newly crowned Swedish champions Frölunda instead, but the transfer cracked when she didn't get her partner Anna Andersson, defender in Luleå last season, to the Gothenburg team.

”Never said a word”

Both are instead found in Brynäs this fall.

The 23-year-old Finnish national team star denies the allegations.

The whole article is totally false. There has never been any influence from my girlfriend on my choice of club. I have never said a word about her to Frölunda and I have never talked about a package deal. Anna has never even wanted to play for Frölunda. She has never talked to them, says Vainikka.

The Finn admits that Frölunda was an alternative, but that she never accepted a transfer.

No package deal

Brynäs sports manager Erika Grahm tells Expressen that it's not about a package deal for the duo, but that she trained Anna Andersson in a girls' team in Modo earlier and therefore had an eye on her.

Viivi showed up later and she is a skilled player. I myself might have thought that she would go to PWHL (women's NHL). But when she, one of the league's best players, got in touch, it's of course interesting.
