"He will not play in the World Cup and we must respect his decision," says the Swedish Ice Hockey Association's strategic sports director Mike Helber to Aftonbladet.

On Tuesday evening the U20 final begins, a best-of-five series between Frölunda and Djurgården, and seven players from the teams have been selected for the Småkronorna World Cup squad.

Six of them will leave their club teams to go to the U18 championship in Slovakia. But not star defender Viggo Björck.

"He has informed our national team captain, Johan Rosén, that he wants to complete the U20 playoffs," says Helber.

The association says no to players who want to join the World Cup after the Swedish Championship final.
