In the video, a person who appears to be Alex Pretti spits at and screams at agents on a Minneapolis street. The man then kicks out the taillight of a Border Patrol vehicle, causing agents to get out of the car and wrestle him down.
The face is correct.
The video was released by The News Movement, a news website that is making a documentary about the protests in Minneapolis. It focuses on ICE's raids on undocumented migrants in the city. The footage was analyzed by the BBC, whose facial recognition technology, the website says, confirmed that the man in the video is Pretti with 97 percent accuracy.
Alex Pretti, an American citizen and intensive care nurse, was killed by federal Border Patrol agents during a protest in Minneapolis over the weekend. The incident has sparked strong reactions, with initial claims by people in President Donald Trump's administration that Pretti, who had a license and was carrying a holstered gun, had intent to kill.
Protests and criticism
He is the second American to be shot dead by federal Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis in January, after mother of three, Renee Good.
The month began with the Trump administration sending thousands of ICE officers to the city, despite the city's Democratic mayor refusing to do so. Minneapolis has been plagued by fraud cases involving Somali residents, and the Department of Homeland Security has claimed that ICE is there to arrest “fraudsters, murderers, rapists and gang members.”
President Trump has long accused migrants in the United States illegally of committing violent crimes and has promised arrests and mass deportations. However, the shootings and intensive raids in Minneapolis have resulted in public protests and criticism from within his own party.
