The nun was walking along a stone street on Mount Zion when a man suddenly ran up and forcefully pushed her to the ground. The man walked away, then went back and kicked her. He only stopped when a passerby intervened.

The surveillance video from Jerusalem, near King David's Tomb and the Cenacle - the so-called "Upper Supper Room", has prompted reactions. On X, the French Consulate General demanded that the perpetrator, who is said to be a 36-year-old Jewish man, be brought to justice. The Israeli Foreign Ministry called it a "heinous attack".

The attack comes amid increased harassment of Christian priests and pilgrims by Jewish extremists in Jerusalem's Old City.

The perpetrator has been arrested and the nun is said to have survived relatively well.
