Victoria Carl says doping ban that ruled her out of Olympics was a huge shock

German ski star Victoria Carl has broken her silence about the doping conviction that forced her to miss the Olympics in Italy. “It was a huge shock for me,” she tells SVT.

It was in the summer of 2025 that it became known that Carl had tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol at the Military World Championships.

She has claimed that she ingested the substance through cough medicine she took on the advice of the military national team.

I simply trusted the doctor too much, and I am extremely angry with myself for trusting them too much and not checking again whether we were allowed to take it, she tells SVT.

Carl was suspended for 18 months and missed the entire last season. On November 25, she is free to compete again - just in time for the World Cup opener in Finland.

I can't do anything now other than say it happened. We have to move on, and there's no grudge or anything like that. I'm just happy to be able to start this season again.
