The home team's 22-year-old megastar had a tough time, to say the least, when the NBA season began in San Antonio.
Victor Wembanyama, who qualified for the World Cup against Sweden at the Globen this summer, missed his first 12 shots before finally scoring on his 13th and final attempt. "Wemby" made at least 10 of his 12 free throws but still finished with a modest 12 points.
The last two seasons' MVP had a more fortunate night for the visiting team. Canadian Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 32 points as Oklahoma City won and got a little revenge for last season's playoffs. San Antonio won the Western Conference finals before falling to the New York Knicks in the NBA finals.
This season, San Antonio and Oklahoma City are the clear favorites to win the title.
