Colorado took an early lead, but Olofsson was quick to equalize, barely half a minute later. It seemed to inject confidence in Vegas, who led 3–1 when the period ended.
Olofsson rounded off a goal-rich second period by extending Vegas' lead to 5–3. Colorado reduced the lead, but Vegas dominated and won 8–4.

It was a goal fest when Calgary defeated Vancouver 6–5 in overtime. Among the goal scorers was Rasmus Andersson, who extended to 4–2 in the second period.
During the night, Montreal also started by defeating Toronto 1–0. Montreal's goalie Sam Montembeault made an incredible 48 saves.
