Nilsson Lindelöf has been without a club since it was clear in the spring that he is leaving Manchester United after eight seasons. But the 31-year-old will stay in the English top division, on the last day of the transfer window he was presented by Aston Villa.
"Aston Villa is very happy to be able to present the signing of Victor Lindelöf", the club writes on its website.
Victor Nilsson Lindelöf was recruited by Manchester United from Portuguese Benfica in 2017. During his eight years in Manchester, the Swedish centre-back has won both the League Cup and the FA Cup.
The Swedish national team gathered in Stockholm on Monday, ahead of the World Championship qualifying matches away against Slovenia (Friday) and Kosovo (next Monday). However, national team manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has chosen not to select Nilsson Lindelöf, considering that he was still looking for a new club at the time of the selection.
