The star defender Victor Hedman becomes the new team captain in top team Tampa Bay in NHL.
The 33-year-old national team defender, who played the World Championship for Tre Kronor in May, takes over after the star forward Steven Stamkos, whom the club unexpectedly chose to trade to Nashville last summer.
"Victor is a cornerstone who is extremely well-respected by his teammates, coaches, and colleagues around the NHL. Over the past 15 years, he has been a world-class representative for our club both on and off the ice", says the club's general manager Julien BriseBois in a press release.
The Modo product has won two Stanley Cup titles with Tampa Bay and been named NHL's best defender on one occasion. During the Stanley Cup victory in 2020, he was named the playoffs' most valuable player.
