The question of who will broadcast the World Cup events in Falun has been a long-running story. Just over four years after Falun was awarded the World Cup, it is now clear that Viaplay will broadcast the event, as it did at the last two World Cups.
Expressen was the first to report the news, and confirmation came from Viaplay shortly afterwards.
"A skiing World Championships on home soil is something truly special and will be one of the biggest sporting events in Sweden in 2027. We are looking forward to an electric atmosphere in Falun, with full stands and Swedish medal hopes. Being able to convey that experience to viewers feels fantastic," says Viaplay sports director Erik Westberg in a press release.
The Swedish Ski Association has previously expressed concern that negotiations have dragged on. Tuesday's announcement was therefore particularly welcome.
"The fact that the agreement is now complete is important and pleasing news. A World Cup on home soil is something very special, and we want as many people as possible to experience the skiing festival that awaits in Falun," says Pernilla Bonde, the association's secretary general.
Expressen writes that Viaplay has sought in vain for a partner to share the cost of the broadcasts, but the broadcaster has not confirmed this.
The agreement Viaplay has signed includes the rights to the Ski World Championships, Alpine World Championships and Freestyle World Championships in both 2027 and 2029.
The World Championships in Falun will be held from February 24 to March 7 next year.
