Zara Larsson is still in the US on tour, so her award was instead received by her mother Agnetha Larsson.

"Zara can't accept the award because she's in Los Angeles living her dream. It took her 13 years, but now she's where she's always dreamed of being," she said.

However, Zara was included via a video link.

"It means so much to me to be appreciated at home. It's so great to be part of the Swedish music industry because we're the best in the world," she said.

Eight years ago - in 2018 - a then 21-year-old Zara Larsson achieved a grand slam at the Grammis with three wins. Now she has received the prestigious awards for Artist of the Year and Pop of the Year for the album "Midnight Sun".

KAJ song of the year

The other big winner of the evening - in terms of number of awards, even more than Zara Larsson - was Viagra Boys, who won Rock of the Year and Album of the Year for "Viagra Boys". The band’s frontman Sebastian Murphy also won a Grammis as Lyricist of the Year for the songs on the album.

Although Ghost won Metal of the Year, Tobias Forge's musical project was the big loser at the gala. The band was nominated for six awards, but could only take home one.

The Song of the Year was the Melodifestival winner "Bara bada bastu" by KAJ, and Fanny Avonne received Newcomer of the Year, competing with, among others, Ida-Lova and Valter Nilsson. Avonne tearfully accepted the award.

"I didn't dare write an acceptance speech; I really didn't believe this," she said.

The biggest cheer during the evening went to Siw Malmkvist, who received an honorary award for her long career.

"People call me an icon and a legend - but that's just me! I think that's the hardest thing, to be yourself," she said, and then rapped a Pippi Longstocking rap from the stage.

Dig at the Minister of Culture

This year, the gala took place at Annexet in Stockholm and was broadcast live on YouTube. The host was Niklas Strömstedt, who himself won a Grammis in 1995 together with Anders Glenmark and Orup of GES.

"Now this isn't broadcast live on TV, so you can party. But I'm worried, I read that you young people don't party anymore," he joked from the stage.

Strömstedt also gave a thumbs up to Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand:

"You're only offered water and popcorn; no wonder the Minister of Culture stayed home."

At the P3 Gold Awards earlier this year, Viagra Boys received the award for Artist of the Year. They were not there to receive that award, but now they were at the Grammis. Veronica Maggio opened the live performances, and during the evening the acclaimed young indie band Nektar, Miss Li and Adaam & Greekazo also performed.

Adaam & Greekazo were nominated in the Hip Hop of the Year category for the EP "Nya skolans ledera". However, that category was won by Jireel.
