When McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, who top the F1 series, made small but costly mistakes, it resulted in Verstappen becoming the fastest in qualifying ahead of Pastri and Norris.
This is an important pole position for Max Verstappen in his pursuit of the total lead. Before the race in Silverstone, he is third in the overall standings, 61 points behind the total leader Oscar Piastri, who in turn is 15 points ahead of second-placed Lando Norris.
Home hope Lewis Hamilton noted a slow finish and had to settle for fifth place in qualifying.
