The reigning World Champion in Red Bull seems to be thriving in Italy. Verstappen's latest victory came in Italy in May, at Imola. He started in pole position with McLaren's Lando Norris beside him. Norris took the start, but fairly soon Verstappen was able to take over.
The Dutchman then pulled away and won with a full 19 seconds ahead of the Briton Lando Norris and 21 ahead of the Australian Oscar Piastri, also in McLaren.
I flew forward, it was an incredible performance by the whole team. I made the pit stop at the right time. It was super nice to win here, says Verstappen.
With the victory, the reigning World Champion closed in on Piastri and Norris in the World Championship standings. Piastri still leads with 324 points, Norris has 293 and Verstappen 230.
Eight races remain in the season. Verstappen, who has won the World Championship series four years in a row, still hopes for a fifth.
We're trying, taking it step by step, he says.
