Earlier this weekend, US President Donald Trump announced that the country had reached an agreement with Venezuela for “majority American control” of at least 65 billion barrels of Venezuela’s oil reserves. Media outlets have subsequently reported that the agreement will last for 100 years.
But on Saturday, Venezuela's interim president Delcy Rodríguez announced that the agreement with the United States is only valid for 25 years. She also assured that Venezuela has not given up control of the oil.
"One thing must be absolutely clear: Venezuela retains ownership and sovereignty over its resources," she said in a speech on state television.
