We are not subordinate or subjugated, Rodríguez said during a ceremony on Thursday, local time.
The ceremony was held to honor the hundreds of Venezuelans who, according to the Venezuelan government, were killed during a U.S. attack on the capital, Caracas, earlier in January.
Rodríguez also stated that Venezuela was fighting the U.S. military when the United States attacked and captured President Nicolás Maduro.
No one gave up. They fought for their homeland.
Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that the United States is in control of Venezuela. As recently as Thursday, he said in an interview with The New York Times that the United States would rule Venezuela and extract oil from its vast reserves for years.
