“According to the amnesty law, 17 people who were deprived of their liberty in Zona 7 are currently being released,” wrote National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez on X, referring to the detention center in the capital Caracas.
He urged Venezuelans to “continue this peaceful path to build democratic coexistence.”
The amnesty law is at the core of reforms implemented by interim President Delcy Rodríguez since the US ousted President Nicolás Maduro. The text of the law includes charges of treason, terrorism and spreading hatred that have been used to imprison dissidents.
