Venezuela Opposition Coalition Reaffirms María Corina Machado as Leader

Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado of Venezuela has been chosen to lead a coalition of opposition groups, increasing pressure on the Caracas regime to let her return to her homeland.

Machado, who is in exile in Panama, has previously been a unifying figure for Venezuela's oppressed opposition. On Sunday, a coalition of opposition figures confirmed that Machado would continue to lead negotiations with the regime in Caracas.

Venezuela's former vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, was appointed president after the United States forcibly removed then-president Nicolás Maduro.

But Venezuela has not allowed opposition leader Machado to return since she managed to sneak out of the country in connection with being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo in 2025. She gave the prize to US President Donald Trump.
