Defenseman Rasmus Andersson was praised by Vegas general manager Kelly McCrimmon after the Swede was traded to the NHL club from Calgary.

"With Rasmus, I think we're getting a first-class defender. He drives the game, he can create plays, he's good at transitions, he's aggressive in the offensive zone - we really believe he's going to strengthen our club," says McCrimmon.

Andersson was traded for Zach Whitecloud, the rights to promising prospect Abram Wiebe, as well as a first-round draft pick in 2027 and a conditional second-round pick in 2028.

Vegas's interest in the 29-year-old Swede was piqued when it became clear his contract-extension negotiations with Calgary, where he is in the final year of a six-year deal, had fallen through.

Andersson has been selected to play for Tre Kronor at the Olympics in February. When he might make his debut for Vegas is unclear. This season he has 30 points for Calgary so far, including 10 goals and 20 assists.
