With just eight games left in the regular season, Vegas is making a surprising move. Bruce Cassidy, who led Vegas to the 2022-23 Stanley Cup title, is now leaving. “We believe a change is necessary,” Vegas announced on its website.
John Tortorella, 60, takes over. The hot-tempered coach has, among other things, won the Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay in 2004.
“In John Tortorella, we get a Stanley Cup champion and one of the most experienced and respected coaches in the NHL,” Vegas writes.
Vegas started the season strong, but a 4-5 shootout loss to Washington in their last outing was their sixth loss in seven games, leaving them just four points behind Los Angeles, the closest team to a playoff spot in the Western Conference.
