Vatican Disables Mobile Network During Papal Conclave

Those who want to use their mobile phone inside the Vatican must take the opportunity now.

At 3:00 pm on Wednesday, the network will be shut down in almost the entire small state, announces the Vatican. Then the conclave begins, when a new pope is elected by over 130 cardinals.

The cardinals are not allowed to have any contact with the outside world during the election, and are not allowed to bring mobile phones or other communication devices. To ensure that they cannot be used, the mobile network is shut down in the Vatican.

Only on St. Peter's Square will it function, to facilitate for tourists and visitors waiting for the result of the papal election.

When the cardinals have announced that they have elected a new pope, it will be turned on again.
