"When blood stocks become too low, large parts of the healthcare system are affected," says Anna Wiberg.
Since it is the holiday season, fewer people are donating blood. If levels continue to drop, planned surgeries may need to be postponed, according to Wiberg. The region needs replenishment in blood groups A and O, both negative and positive, as well as AB negative.
In Region Skåne, according to the regional blood centres' network Geblod, there is an acute shortage of blood groups O and A negative.
In Stockholm, stocks are stable, says Åsa Lindström Hammar, chief physician in the region, in a comment.
"We do not see a risk of shortage," says Hammar, but emphasizes the importance of blood donors giving blood even during vacation time.
