According to SVT Västerbotten, a boy in middle school subjected a girl to violence and abuse on two occasions. The school took several measures, including transferring the boy to another school.

But the principal did not report the incidents to the police, as required since July 1, 2025, when there are suspicions of crimes committed in a school setting. The principal reportedly said he was unaware that the law had come into force.

The principal has now been sentenced by Umeå District Court (a Swedish district court) for negligently failing to report the incident to the police. He has been fined almost 19,000 kronor (about $1,800).
