Now, technical controls during the Vasaloppet are being tightened. Last year, 24 percent said they skated and aimed to skate the entire Vasaloppet.

This year's Vasaloppet racers will face technical checks on the track. These checks are intended to stop skating during the race.

"We want to protect classic skiing, nationally and internationally, while at the same time we need to adapt to developments by offering the best possible opportunities," says Tommy Höglund, sports director for Vasaloppet, in a press release.

Vasaloppet has produced four films showing what is and is not allowed to prevent cheating. These are sent to registered participants.

Technical checks will be carried out in Tjejvasan, Vasaloppet and other races during Vasaloppet's winter week, in classic style.
