IFK Värnamo falls out of Allsvenskan and down to Superettan. It is clear after 1–1 at home against Brommapojkarna.

IFK Värnamo's time in the top division is over. Despite a late equalizer from Marcus Antonsson against Brommapojkarna, it was clear on Sunday that the team will be relegated to Superettan.

Värnamo entered the match with their backs against the wall and needed three points to keep the dream of a new contract alive.

But at Finnvedsvallen, it ended in a draw. BP's Victor Lind broke the deadlock late, before Antonsson ensured the home team took a 1-1 result.

It was three points that mattered. It was a tired, bad football match with a very slow tempo, says Antonsson to HBO Max.

The loss of points means that Värnamo can no longer save the contract. The team is last in the table, nine points behind Östers IF on the qualifying spot. Theoretically, Värnamo could catch up - but since Öster and Degerfors meet in the next round, at least one of the teams will reach 26 points. Värnamo can at most reach 25.

After the promotion from Superettan in 2021, Värnamo has established itself as a fresh breeze in the top division, with the placements tenth, fifth and fourteenth place. Last season, the Smålanders survived via a qualifying match against Landskrona Bois.

  1. Brommapojkarna 30 points (-3 in goal difference).

  2. Sirius 30 (-5).

  3. Norrköping 29 (-13).

  4. Halmstad 28 (-26).

Qualifying spot:

  1. Öster 25 (-16).

Relegation spot:

  1. Degerfors 23 (-21).

  2. Värnamo 16 (-22).

Halmstad and Degerfors have played one match less than the other teams.

The teams meet on Monday evening in the 27th round.

The other teams have three matches left to play.
