Värnamo gets to qualify to stay in Allsvenskan

Värnamo faces Landskrona in the Allsvenskan qualifying round. IFK Göteborg escaped that ordeal with the smallest possible margin. It's clear that there is stress and pressure, but it's about being able to handle it and being better than Landskrona, so you get to play in the Allsvenskan next year, says Värnamo's Simon Thern to Max.

Värnamo played 0–0 at home against Elfsborg while IFK Göteborg lost 0–1 away against Mjällby.

Both teams stayed on 31 points and minus 10 in goal difference, but Göteborg avoided qualifying thanks to more goals scored during the season.

Gustav Svensson in IFK Göteborg:

Fucking weird match. We get the result in the end that it's over between Värnamo and Elfsborg. We just had to play out the match, I think half of Mjällby's players also thought that.

A weird season from start to finish, but now it's over anyway, he says to Max.

"Hard to score goals"

For Värnamo, the hunt for safe Allsvenskan status became a bumpy ride at home against Elfsborg. Even though the team managed to create some opportunities, the final touch was missing to make it really dangerous.

We have moments today when we're pretty good, but we have trouble scoring goals again. We have to recharge for Landskrona, there's not much more to do than that, concludes Simon Thern in Max after the match.

Värnamo had a corner in the final minutes where the entire team – including goalkeeper Viktor Andersson – moved up into Elfsborg's penalty area, but apart from that, the real desperation for a winning goal didn't seem to be there, not even at the end of the match.

It's clear that it doesn't get particularly dangerous in the last ten minutes. Overall, I think we're the better team, but we can't win matches right now, so it's a bit sour, says Thern.

"There's stress and pressure"

Now it's up to Värnamo to recharge for the upcoming double match against Landskrona.

It's about going out and playing a regular football match, and then doing it over two matches. It's clear that there's stress and pressure in it, maybe, but it's about being able to handle it and being better than Landskrona, so you get to play Allsvenskan next year, says Thern.

For IFK Göteborg, it was the second year in a row that the club avoided qualifying matches after a thriller in the final round.

Since Värnamo's match remained goalless, "Blåvitt" could lose with the odd goal and still hang on without qualifying.

Kalmar FF and Västerås SK are relegated to Superettan. The qualifying matches for Allsvenskan will be played on November 21 and 24.
