Grealish made a nice lift into the penalty area where Josko Gvardiol chested the ball down to Erling Braut Haaland, who scored the go-ahead goal.

The goal was only approved after a VAR review in the 19th minute. Just over ten minutes later, an injured Grealish was substituted.

City led the match twice, but Real Madrid came back with two late goals in the first leg of the round of 16. Jude Bellingham decided the match with his 3–2 goal in added time.
