During the US attacks on Iran on Tuesday, a drone or missile hit a private residential building in the coastal town of Kuhestak on the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has called the attack a genocide, but the information has not been confirmed elsewhere and the US says it only attacked military targets.

The BBC has fact-checked images from the scene and experts told the media outlet that the remains indicate it was an American projectile.

US Vice President JD Vance said on Thursday that an investigation has been launched, but that he doubts the Iranian reports.

Iranian state media doesn't have a great track record. So I'm extremely skeptical.
