Vance in India: Boosting Ties Amid US-China Trade War

The USA's Vice President JD Vance has traveled to India. The country hopes to benefit from the visit by bringing the USA closer and improving its positions in Trump's trade war against China.

Vance landed in New Delhi on Monday and is expected to stay for four days for what is described as mainly a pleasure trip.

First on the schedule is a meeting with India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders are expected to discuss the trade agreements presented in February when Modi met Trump in Washington.

The agreement aims to double trade between the countries by 2030 and would significantly strengthen the economic and diplomatic ties between India and the USA.

The visit is also taking place against the backdrop of Trump pausing his promised tariffs against, among others, India and the trade war against India's arch-rival China.

Modi and Vance are expected to "review progress in bilateral relations" and "exchange views on regional and global issues of common interest", stated India's Foreign Ministry last week. On Monday, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that Vance's visit will "further deepen the comprehensive global strategic partnership between India and the USA".
