At the newspaper’s request, the Swedish Enforcement Authority checked all current members of parliament. None, apart from Mohamed Ali, appear in its register.
Two years ago, Ali was denied Swedish citizenship because of his debts. He has since been granted citizenship and is subject to debt relief. He has said that he will do what is right for him.
At the same time, he has incurred new debts, including unpaid motor insurance premiums and parking fines.
Ali has not attended the Riksdag since the election. The police are investigating suspected election fraud linked to his personal election campaign. He has not been informed that he is suspected of a crime.
V initially stated that Ali would be away while the investigation was ongoing. It now says he will take up his parliamentary duties “shortly”.
