Uzbekistan secured second place in its qualifying group away from the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi with a 0–0 draw, behind already qualified Iran with one match left to play.

Since independence after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, Uzbekistan has failed in seven consecutive World Championship qualifications, but now the dismal streak is over. The national team is ranked 57th in the world ranking.

Jordan also secured a World Championship ticket thanks to a 3–0 away win over Oman since Ali Olwan became a big hero with a hat-trick.

South Korea defeated Iraq away with 2–0 and is clearly qualified for its eleventh consecutive World Championship knockout stage.

From Asia's qualifying groups, Japan has already secured a spot in the World Championship in the United States, Canada, and Mexico next summer.
