The NBA team Utah Jazz has benched star players Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson Jr. in recent games. That did not go unpunished. The NBA has fined the team the equivalent of 4.5 million kronor.

Utah is currently one of the worst teams in NBA basketball. However, bad can mean good when the worst teams get the first pick in the upcoming NBA draft. The upcoming generation of players is also considered one of the best in recent years. After the Utah Jazz chose to bench their two stars, Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson Jr., at the ends of recent games, the NBA has acted.

Under a policy introduced in 2023, the NBA has fined the Jazz $500,000 for failing to field its on-paper best lineup at the end of a game.

The Indiana Pacers were also fined $100,000 for a game against Utah.
