Among other American goods affected by China's new tariffs, which come into effect on February 10, are crude oil, agricultural machinery, pickup trucks, and certain sports cars.
The new tariffs are a response to the "unilateral American tariff increases" over the weekend, according to Beijing, which claims that the American tariffs "seriously violate" the World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and disrupt trade relations between China and the US. China has also announced that it has filed a formal complaint with the WTO.
China simultaneously announces that it has launched an anti-competition investigation against American Google, writes Bloomberg.
The US tariffs, which include an additional 10 percent tariff on goods imported from China, came into effect at 06:00 on Tuesday Swedish time.
China has previously stated that it "strongly opposes" the US decision on tariffs and that these will be met with "corresponding countermeasures".
Trump formally decided on the tariffs over the weekend. This also included 25 percent tariffs for both Canada and Mexico, which were also scheduled to come into effect today.
After Trump spoke with the leaders of the two neighboring countries – Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau – he decided to postpone the trade war for 30 days in exchange for promises of strengthened border surveillance.
