The envoy Kellogg has not previously commented on the conversation. Zelenskyj believed that the meeting had been "detailed and productive".

"Comprehensive and positive talks with Zelenskyj, the exposed and brave leader of a nation at war – and with his talented national security group", writes Kellogg on the X platform.

A planned press conference after the meeting on Thursday in Kyiv was cancelled. No official reason was given for the cancellation of the press conference, where it was intended that the American envoy Kellogg and Zelenskyj would make a statement each and answer questions. This was replaced with a brief opportunity to photograph the two.

The cancelled press conference was another sign of the deep divisions between Ukraine and the USA over the Russian invasion war. Zelenskyj's spokesperson Serhij Nikiforov said that the USA had requested that the press conference be cancelled.

The former American general Kellogg has also met with Ukraine's highest military officer Oleksandr Syrskyj and the leader of the Ukrainian intelligence service.
