After the sensational win against Canada in the group stage of the Junior World Championship, Latvia is back down to earth again. USA won 5–1 against the Latvians after an American lead of 4–0 before the final period.
After two played matches, USA leads the group ahead of Canada and Finland, with Latvia on the last playoff spot. Germany is still without points.
In Sweden's group, the Czech Republic thrashed Kazakhstan and won 14–2. The Czech Republic now leads the group ahead of Sweden. Both have won their matches, but the Czech Republic's goal difference is better – Sweden only managed to win 8–1 over Kazakhstan. Slovakia is third and Switzerland, which Sweden meets on Sunday, has, like Kazakhstan, zero points so far.
