Nasams has been developed in Norway in a collaboration between the Norwegian defense company Kongsberg and the American RTX.

They can be used against, among other things, drones, helicopters and cruise missiles. The system is used today, among other things, by Ukraine in the war against Russia.

"The proposed sale will strengthen Egypt's capability to meet today's and future threats by improving its ability to detect various types of threats from the air," it says in a statement from the US Department of Defense.

According to the department, the deal also strengthens US security, by improving the security for "a force for political stability and economic development in the Middle East".

The deal must now be approved by Congress.
