"European indecision and the PIC's failure to fulfill its obligations are forcing the United States to reconsider our role in the current international presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina," the department wrote in a statement.
The PIC is the international body tasked with monitoring the Dayton Agreement that ended the country's civil war. The High Representative has special powers, including authority over laws, but there is disagreement about how extensive those powers should be.
German Christian Schmidt, who has held the position since 2021, recently announced he will resign.
