Americans who find themselves in Venezuela should leave the country "immediately," the U.S. State Department says.

The advisory cites that the situation in the country is "changing", which could include, among other things, a risk that paramilitary groups will begin searching for American citizens at roadblocks.

The message from the State Department comes after the United States captured the leader, Nicolás Maduro, in an attack on Caracas a week ago.

"Since international flights have resumed, US citizens in Venezuela should leave the country immediately," the advisory says.
