At the same time, the president was careful to emphasize that he had an excellent meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping during his state visit to China last week.
"We will deal with the Taiwan problem," Trump said early Thursday morning, local time in Sweden.
In December, the president approved an $11 billion arms package for Taiwan, but the US has yet to move forward with the delivery. During his visit to China, Trump stated that the deal is “on hold” and that “it depends on China.”
China claims Taiwan, but in practice Taiwan has been self-governing – with its own elections and its own military capabilities – for several decades.
