The fee increases from 21 dollars (approximately 200 kronor) to 40 dollars (approximately 381 kronor), writes Travel Weekly. The fee increase is part of Donald Trump's comprehensive legislative package which he has dubbed "one big beautiful bill".
The US travel association, an interest organization for the travel industry, has criticized the price increase and calls it "crazy" in a statement.
The legislative package also means major cuts to the country's official tourist organization Brand USA. The support for the organization is capped from equivalent to just over 950 million kronor per year to 190 million.
