US trade deficit widens to $77.6 billion in May as imports rise, exports fall

The increase was expected, however. The average forecast among analysts was for a deficit of $78.4 billion in May, according to a Bloomberg compilation of forecasts.

The value of imports to the United States in May increased 3.3 percent to $395.3 billion, while the value of exports fell 3.2 percent to $317.7 billion.
