This represents an estimated one-quarter of the refund claims expected after the Supreme Court's decision to strike down a large portion of the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration last year. The total refund claims are estimated at $85 billion, according to filings by the customs agency in a U.S. trade court.
The refunds include the customs duty itself and interest on the amounts that were incorrectly paid. However, it is not clear how much interest the companies will receive from the U.S. government.
